about

The album's title track is inspired by the legendary 3-day battle between Irish giant Finn McCool (The Giant of Summer) and Scottish giant, Ruscaire (The Giant of Winter) who fought with their bare hands on day 1, with clubs on day 2 and with rocks on day 3. The battle ended when Finn hurled a huge boulder across Carlingford Lough from the Cooley Hills to the Mourne Mountains. It landed square on the Scottish giant's head smashing him to smithereens of ice, and is still there today on the top of Slieve Meen. Finn, tired from the ordeal, lay down to 'sleep' and his profile is still visible from the northern shores of the lough atop Slieve Foy.

lyrics

Mother, I saw a man lying over there
There where the mountain meets the sky
Is he sleeping or is he dead?

He lay down a very long time ago
After three days fighting with rocks and with his bare hands
He said he was the giant of the summer time
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain

I saw the sun fall out of the sky today
I saw the moon the same high up in the sky
Can you see him lying where the mountain meets the sky?
Oh why?
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain

And he was fighting with the giant of the winter
All the way across Carlingford Lough
And the in end he killed the giant with the Cloughmore Stone
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain
The man in the mountain
