Near to Banbridge Town in the County Down One morning in July Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen And she smiled as she passed me by She looked so neat from her two white feet To the sheen of her nut brown hair Sure the coaxing elf, I’d to shake myself To make sure I was standing there From Bantry Bay up to Derry Quay And from Galway to Dublin Town, No maid I've seen like the brown colleen That I met in the County Down As she onward sped, I shook my head And I gazed with a feelin' queer And I said says I, to a passer-by "Whose the maid with the nut brown hair"? He smiled at me and with pride says he "That's the gem of Ireland's crown That’s young Rose McCann from the banks of the Bann She's the star of the County Down" At the crossroads fair, I’ll surely be there And I'll dress in my Sunday clothes And I’ll try sheeps’ eyes and deludhering lies On the heart of the nut brown rose No pipe I'll smoke, no horse I'll yoke Though with rust my plough turns brown Till a smiling bride, by my own fireside Sits the star of the County Down

Some kind of blue That’s what we do Wrong is so right Day is so night Living without you We can go up Mountains of love Cliffs overlook Oceans of doubt Living without you
3.
The moon is high Above the mountain Hanging in the sky She’s hanging in the sky And as the clouds They part around her She shines down in my eye She shines down in my eye And while we turn She spins around us Until the morning light Until the morning light I watch her face As she is crying And smoking in the dark She’s smoking in the dark

Tiocfaidh an samhradh
 Agus fásfaidh an féar
 Tiocfaidh an duilliúr ghlas
 Ar bharr na gcraobh
 Tiocfaidh mo rúinsearc
 Le bánú an lae
 Agus buailfidh sí túin suas
Le cumha 'mo dhiaidh Scairt mé aréir
 Ag an doras thall
 Scairt mé aríst
An raibh mo rún le fáil
 Dúirt a daidí liom
 Nach raibh sí ann
 Nó gur éaluigh sí aréir
Leis an buachaill donn Brón ar an fharraige
 Mar is sí atá mór
' Sí atá ag dul idir mé
Is mo mhíle stór
 Siúlfaidh mé na bailte seo
Agus siúlfaidh mé na róid
Agus dheamhan bean a phósfas mé
No go dtéim faoi fhód Summer will come
 Grass will grow
 Green leaves will sprout
 On the treetops
 My true love will come
At the break of day
 And strike up a tune
Out of loneliness for me I called last night
 At the house yonder
I called again
To see if my true love was there
 Her father said
 She wasn't around
 That she eloped last night
With the brown-haired boy A curse on the sea
 Because it's so vast
It goes between me
And the one that I love
I'll walk these towns
 And tramp the road
And no woman will I marry
'Til I lie in my grave

You are the one I wanna know And I want you to know that I I think about you all the time And I think you think about me Go where your heart it wants to Go where your heart it wants to Go where your heart it wants to go You are the one I whisper to In the night time when I can’t sleep You hold me in your arms so tight And I don’t want you to let go I don’t want you to let go I don’t want you to let go I don’t want you to let go
6.
As I roved out upon The green fields of the meadow I wandered past the Fairy Glen And somebody whispered to me Gleann na sidhe I saw a beauty on the breeze Her eyes were blue as sapphire I swear her garment was as green As the laurel tree, as the laurel tree Her lips were red like rubies Her hair was black as night Her voice like crystal waters Running by, running by And beauty kissed me softly Upon my feathered brow And I was elevated For to fly, for to fly There’s nowhere else on God’s green earth That I would rather be Than to see the mountains sweeping down To the sea, to the sea
7.
Somewhere on the dark misty mountain I have left my heart Beating as the rain falls Beating as the rain falls Echos on the breeze as the birds leave Leaves fall from the trees Colours red and gold alive Colours red and gold alive
8.
In the winter I saw colour in your eyes In your eyes In the winter I was bleeding My heart was breaking in the winter time In the winter I saw feeling in your heart In your heart In your heart
9.
Love Is something Not to give up Cause soon enough You’ll be pushing up the daisies Oh Time To take a moment And think about it And what you wanted Cause you’ll be pushing up the daisies Oh Before you know Nature Is all we know And you can play this game called life And I can play this game called life And we can play this game called life But we’ll be pushing up the daisies Oh Before we know
10.
Looking 04:25
Looking out As I’m gazing in I know I have sinned I see I can’t win And my body is falling apart Falling apart Looking back As you’re gazing back at me From an old photograph If we talked I know we’d laugh And then later, we’d cry ourselves to sleep Cry ourselves to sleep

about

Bróna McVittie Northern Ireland, UK

Pioneering her own brand of cosmic folk, Bróna McVittie both deftly reimagines traditional folk and crafts her own nature- inspired songs with a rich mix of folk and electronic instruments. As The Guardian describes it “You’re put in the place of a bird navigating wide open landscapes, absorbing light, space and air. This is music that takes you on its wing, and gives you fresh visions” ... more
